so evidently the whole MUD chipped in to get me this poster for my bday and that is….crazy amazing, you guys are wonderful. also wonderful secret keepers.
to explain why this poster is so rad you have to know who you’re looking at. so first off, that guy there? in the overalls? with the chiseled majestic made-for-propaganda jaw? that’s yuri gagarin, the first man in space. dude was goddamn hardcore i mean he used to steal the casings off nazi shells with his brother and resell them for money when they were kids.
and those dogs? are belka and strelka. while not the first canines in space (that was laika) they are the first two living creatures to complete an orbital flight around the earth, and actually survive re-entry and retire. and their puppies got given to the kennedy kids too :B
also supposidly the russian actually says ‘the way for man is open!' but i'm not certain about that because the site which says so also thinks that those dogs are laika. plz, get your spacedog history straight.  though the word that looks like 'nytb' appears in a lot of propaganda that translates with a phrase about open/opening a pathway and i think 'yenobeky' might mean man SO IF THAT IS WHAT IT SAYS THAT'S A PRETTY GENERIC MOTIVATIONAL PHRASE AND MAN WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT FROM VINTAGE SPACE PROPAGANDA
plus it’s not a replica. or if it is, it’s an extremely high grade replica, because it comes with a small tag on the back from the russian archives. but it’s yellowed and delicate and clearly was printed with a technique that is uh. not computers.
IT’S LIKE THE PERFECT POSTER I MEAN COME ON YOU CAN’T EVEN TELL ME THAT’S NOT AMAZING
