Good job America

You and your gun laws let a third grader bring a gun to school in his backpack, which went off and shot a little girl who is now fighting for her life. Good job.

because that’s totally America’s fault some dumbass parent doesn’t know how to take care of their kid HEH

because nothing bad happens in canada rite

aaaaaaaalright time to step in here with a head full of GERMS and talk about guns

look i am an american. i have never owned a gun. i have never shot a gun. guns scare the shit out of me. but i love squirt guns and nerf guns and LASER GUUUUUUUNS and nintendo zappers and all that stuff. it’s just fun to pretend to be han solo and go PEW PEW but i’m getting off topic

the thing is i hate guns, i really do, but the fundamentals upon which our country was built kind of…go away when you can’t own a gun. the whole point is that if you have a gun and your government goes all crazy on you (say, marching through your home town demanding you throw your jews out, or demanding you throw your gays out, or demanding you throw your women who opted to have abortions out?) you can pick up your gun, point it at them, and say ‘over my cold, dead body.’

individual citizens owning guns was what basicly lead to america BECOMING america. it’s a right that as a country we hold very near and dear.

the government goes to all reasonable lengths to ensure that guns are registered. it goes to very reasonable lengths to ensure people with criminal records or histories of mental instability can’t get guns. it goes to reasonable lengths to ensure that people must WAIT to purchase their guns, rather than impulse buy a semi automatic and go on a killing spree.

you can buy gun safes for stupid cheap. the government basicly does all it can to ensure people are responsible with fire-arms. that doesn’t mean people are always going to be.

some parents are stupid. some parents let children play with guns. some parents don’t put their guns where kids can’t reach them. some parents leave guns loaded and lying around. i make no excuse for these people, they’re idiots. there are always going to be idiots. but to argue that the entire country is at fault because we choose to protect our right to, as a people, have an armed revolution at any time? is bullshit, man.

i mean we can also make excuses about having them for personal safety but that’s not really where america’s love affair with guns begins or ends. it’s that we feel owning fire arms protects our individual rights. a bit like a security blanket. our constitution says we can own guns - it says nothing about only smart people or responsible people owning guns. we fought for the right to live under that constitution with guns. people feel like this weapon will help them keep their rights sacred, and you know what, maybe that’s not correct? but that’s the way it is over here.

the point is

guns are scary. guns kill people. that’s part of the danger of having a gun. kind of like if you adopted a dog that was used in dog fights? it might bite you once or twice. it might even kill a smaller animal. but you adopted it, you knew that was a risk. you ACCEPTED that risk. if you were a GOOD PERSON you would have taken every precaution available to ensure that nobody else had to suffer for your risk.

the government can’t walk into peoples’ homes and tell them to lock their guns up or check to make sure the safety is on or anything. that’s kind of uh…intrusive. and if they did, i imagine the black market for unregistered firearms would boom even larger than it is now, and in essence it’d wind up even more of a dangerous situation.

this country has a love affair with guns. it’s a long, deep one that goes back to our founding. you can’t make americans give up guns any more than you can make canada give up being polite or japan give up being naively racist. it’s a national quirk. i mean, here i am, saying how much i hate guns and yet writing a fucking thesis statement on why it’s not the fault of the country but the fault of the parents that some kid got hurt.

and it IS the fault of the parents.

shit i can see bringing a knife to school

shit, i used to bring deer skinning knives to school when i was a fourth grader. because it’s much easier to teach knife safety to a child than it is gun safety. if little timmy told the parentals he was bringing a gun to school? they should have said ‘now hold on timmy, don’t you think that’s a show and tell for a day when we can come WITH you? children are not allowed to have guns in school.’

if little timmy SNUCK the gun to school, again, the parents are strictly at fault. that gun should have been locked up. it should have been out of reach. it should have been at the very least hidden in a place timmy wouldn’t find it (and i’m not talking about where you hid the xmas presents, dipshit. every child knows THAT spot). and honestly if it’s not in a locked safe? it should have been checked on once a day to MAKE SURE YOU KNEW WHERE IT WAS. it SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN KEPT LOADED. these are stupid mistakes made by the individual gun owner.

let’s go back to dogs for a minute.

say i own a pitbull

and so does my neighbor

but my neighbor is a shitty dog owner. they hurt the dog, they treat it poorly, they encourage aggressive behavior from it. for the sake of the metaphor, let’s also pretend nobody but the owner knows about this. anyway.

one day, their dog gets loose. and being an abused dog, it goes aggressive and bites someone.

does that mean ALL pitbulls should be euthanized?
does that mean ALL DOG OWNERS are idiots?
does that mean the country which originally began to breed bullys for fighting is at fault?
NO.

it means the individual owner done fucked up. it means the original owner is the idiot. the original owner shouldn’t be allowed to own the object in question (be it guns, dogs, whatever). the original owner is the person to bring the hammer down on, not the larger population of responsible citizens who KNOW HOW TO HANDLE THINGS.

AND THAT
LADIES AND GENTS
IS HOW YOU GET AN ANTI-GUN AMERICAN TO RANT IN FAVOUR OF GUNS
