this is daisy. she is a yellow labrador retriever. she is 12 years old, born in queen anne’s county, maryland. she was hit by a car when she was a puppy and broke both hips, but her indomitable spirit lead her to a full recovery.
lately, daisy has been getting increasingly less active, and seemed to be panting all the time. my mother has been taking her to the vets to figure out what may be causing her sudden decline in health, which seemed not to be just because of her age.
to-day we found out daisy has a mass on her spleen, her adrenal gland and some nodes on her liver. this comes down on us hard, as we have lost two other pets within the last two years. my cat magnum vincent, the most recent, simply seemed to waste away after jasmine, my childhood cat of 19 years, passed away of old age. we spent a lot of time and money trying to find what was wrong with him, stopping short only of exploratory surgery, and in the end could not save him.
we know what daisy needs, and we want to give her every chance she has.
my mother set up a give forward account to try and raise money for daisy, and is selling her truck to try and finance the expenses, estimated at $4000. my mother herself has been in poor condition and will be undergoing a hip replacement next month, followed by surgeries to repair the ligaments in both ankles. she is only 49 years old, and daisy has been a reason for her to continue getting up in the morning despite the pain and depression surrounding her increasing handicap.
if you want to donate to help with daisy’s expenses, please donate to the give forward account. we don’t expect to get $4000, but every bit that is donated will go toward surgery to remove the masses and the chemotherapy we expect to follow. alternatively, if you are interesting in purchasing a 2000 Ford Expedition and live in the MD/VA/DE/DC area, send me an ask for details.
